The Mistel MD200 is a premium 22 key numpad featuring an Aluminium case and RGB lighting. It amazes me that Mistel continues to push the boundary of there consumer/prosumer products. Mistel listens to their audience and pushed to fix problems and alleviate complaints. This is what I like to see in a company.
TLDR: Solid numpad that is feature packed for the price. If you can get over the orange layer, I can highly recommend it.
Pros:
Nice anodized aluminium case.
RGB
Interconnect with MD600
PBT doubleshot keycaps
Wide switch options
Good price(hangs around $90-70 mark)
Cons:
Orange insert should be a neutral color.
Build:
The design is aesthetically pleasing to my eyes and follows Apple’s old design language on the M0120. The large chamfered edges look nice, and the aluminium and acrylic layers line up perfectly. Because of the Aluminium, the numpad doesn't flex or creak. The switches are plate mounted and very sturdy, no complaints there. Stabilizers are typical quality, solid but they rattle a little. Just lube your stabs and they should be good to go.
Room to grow:
The orange layer really needs to be changed to clear. I mean, what is the point of RGB if it isn't color neutral? In the next iteration of the MD200, I would like the middle layer to either be a neutral color or aluminium. The RGB backlighting sorta shines through the middle layer, so frosted acrylic would be awesome.
Price/Should you buy it?
Pricing tends to vary a bit, but the cheapest price at the moment is $69.99 from Amazon (as of 11/23/17). I think that this price is very competitive, especially if you compare it to other numbed offerings(Pre-built). Other numpads in the same price range simply don’t have the same amount of features as the MD200. Offerings from Varmillo and Leopold just cannot compete with Mistel’s new offering.
If you need a solid numpad for your accounting(or whatever you do) and want extra features like RGB and an aluminium case, then I can definitely recommend the Mistel Freeboard MD200
